Tree Decorating

I had visions of Christmas music playing softly in the background while our boys, filled with delight, happily hung each ornament with care…
*
Lincoln hung one or two and decided it was more fun to play with Mickey.
Isaac watched and said “this is boring.”
Ethan said, “OK,  Mom, I hung some ornaments, but I have to work on something very important now” (a picture for his friend) .
Warren was in the Christmas spirit as he loudly sang along to the not so quiet music! (It probably would have been annoying to anyone else, but I secretly enjoyed it.)
Mickey seemed happy enough.

Funny. Looks good. It was the same for us this year. I had visions of the boys in their Christmas pjs, soft Christmas music, and ending the evening with cookies and hot chocolate. However, we decided to do our Christmas pictures last week and the tree wasn’t decorated. It became a mad scramble to decorate. The boys, especially Owen, enjoyed helping though. Dan was busy setting up our portrait studio.

Fun! We need to get our tree up!

I saw your tree from Striker last week (maybe Thursday). It looked very nice. Our kids were about as enthused as yours for our tree, and I was probably not as willing of a participant as Warren. Rachel piloted most of the endeavor herself.

Had to laugh on this one. Dad and I used to laugh about our “annual fight” which happened when we put up the Christmas tree. It all started out so nice, with hot cocoa heating up on the stove, freshly popped pop corn in bowls, the first Christmas cookies waiting for us to enjoy and of course our favorite carols playing in the background.

And then began the struggle of getting the live tree to stand up straight. We would get it right, we thought, and then it would tip precariously to one side or fall over. Each of us thought it was the other’s fault, and before long our dreams of the perfect evening were shattered. Finally, we bought an artificial tree, and we lost our annual fight. But it’s true that our dreams of the perfect holiday never materialize, and the best thing we can do is roll with the punches and enjoy! I wish I had done that more!
