I don’t feel old enough to have a six-year-old, but here I am writing about Ethan turning six! He is almost finished with Kindergarten and will be heading to a full day of first grade in the Fall. I am not looking forward to him being gone from home all day Monday through Friday. He just seems too little for that. I know that his little brothers, especially Isaac will miss him terribly, too.
Ethan has always been our “challenging” child. But, this past year he has matured a lot and things get easier and easier with him. Just this weekend my Dad and sister were here for a visit. When they left Ethan started to cry and was very upset. He did this the last time we went to Tennessee to visit his Grandma and Grandpa Falk. When it was time to leave the tears came. While he was crying he told me that he wanted his WHOLE family to live near him. I think it’s hard for him because he knows it will be a while before we see them again. It broke my heart to see him so sad, but it was sweet to see how deeply he cares for his family.
Ethan continues to do well in school. His teacher recently told me that he is reading at a second grade level. We are very proud of him. But, we need to start being careful about what we leave around the house for him to find and read. A couple of weeks ago he found a list of things I wrote down that we were getting him for his birthday! He said, “Mom, you shouldn’t leave this on the counter because I can read now.” Ooops!
Ethan is really into playing with his toy guns. He has Nerf guns, water guns, and cap guns. He plays with these most of the time. He also likes his “guys.” He has lots of good guys and bad guys of course.
His favorite quiet activity is using his sharpie marker pens. He loves sharpies! He probably has about 40 different markers. He likes to write on his old school papers when he brings them home. He goes back and corrects all of his mistakes or makes some up just so he can use his pens!
His favorite colors are still blue and red.
He loves vanilla and doesn’t care much for chocolate…strange I know!
He still has not lost a tooth. We check for loose ones from time to time, but nothing yet.
Ethan is a great eater. He loves fruit! He isn’t much of a sweets eater. He would rather eat “real” food. Strange again, I know. He loves pizza, tortellini, and tacos.
His teacher says he will be an engineer when he grows up. Although, Ethan thinks he just wants to be a Daddy.
When I asked him what he wanted his wife to be like someday he said, “Old like you, Mommy.” Is that a compliment or an insult? :)
Ethan is his own person and tries to control everything! He likes to be the one in charge and give orders! We look forward to see where life will take him someday. He will probably be someone important.
When Ethan is sweet, he is extremely sweet! I cherish those times with him. He is a handsome little guy and we love him so much! It’s sad to me to know his toddler years are over. I can’t believe he is 6 already, it doesn’t seem possible!
